MyHome Assistance Program
Homeownership is not just a dream for all. From that point, one option is the MyHome Assistance Program offered by CalHFA. The MyHome program provides first-time homebuyers with a deferred-payment junior loan to assist with down payment and/or closing cost expenses. This loan is only available in combination with the CalHFA’s first mortgage loan program. Furthermore, this program is a conventional loan program for low-to-moderate income first-time homebuyers.
The junior loan is only repayable if the borrower sells or refinances their home. It makes it an attractive option for many borrowers. Also, the amount of assistance varies based on the homebuyer’s income and the location of the property being purchased.
School Teacher and Employee Assistance Program (STEAP)
The STEAP program provides down payment and closing cost assistance to teachers, administrators, school district employees, and staff members who work at California public schools.
This program is also only available in combination with CalHFA’s first mortgage loan program. STEAP provides up to $15,000 in assistance to eligible borrowers. Moreover, the loan amount is determined based on the location of the property being purchased and the borrower’s income.
